The Arts
Our Art and Drama program includes dramatic arts as well as vocal and instrumental music.
ART
Our Art teachers are certified with their Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA). Students learn at an early age an “eye” for colours. Part of our program for our younger students in our Kindergarten grades is to assist in developing their fine motor skills. Students learn how to hold their pencils and crayons to maximize their colouring and shading techniques. Students learn their basis primary and secondary colours which are essential for art creations in the future.
By Grade 1 our students are taught more formal art – Renaissance art, landscape designs, reverse colours, shading; are just a few techniques that our students learn. Over time, our students are able to transpose their art techniques into other subject areas such as Math and Science.
MUSIC
Music teachers are qualified to teach both vocal and instrumental music. Students are introduced to basic musical notes, rhythm and beat in our Kindergarten grades. By Grade 1 our students learn to play their first wind instrument – the recorder. They then move on to the key board by Grade 3 and then on to band instruments by Grade 5. Students showcase their musical talents at our Holiday and Spring concerts.
